Environmental Initiatives
Caring for the Environment
We really care about our planet and we know that at this moment, our precious ‘blue dot’ is in crisis. With the effects of climate change becoming more obvious as each season passes in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and the devastating consequences of plastic pollution, a call to action for change across the globe is needed now more than ever before.
We want to do more than make exceptional environmentally responsible products. Noopii® exists to have a positive impact on our environment by reducing plastic going into landfills, off-setting our carbon footprint by supporting tree planting and contributing funds to reforestation and species recovery programmes. Our environmental initiatives aim to give back and support recovery programmes for our forests, oceans and animals. Our Initiatives include One Pack, One Tree; donating to tree planting programmes and supporting Wildlife Recovery programmes for endangered and threatened native animals.
Noopii® Native Trees
One Billion Trees Planted campaign with Trees That Count
One Billion Trees is a Government-backed tree planting programme, aiming to increase tree planting across New Zealand and have one billion trees planted by 2028. At Noopii®, we want to do our bit and take part in this important initiative. By planting trees, we have a positive impact on deforestation and global warming, whilst helping to offset our Carbon footprint. For every pack sold, we will donate a portion of sales to Trees That Count for a tree purchase. Trees That Count puts tree planting into action, helping businesses channel proceeds into native tree purchases, leading to native tree planting and working toward One Billion Trees planted by 2028. Support us, and purchase Noopii®. Learn more about One Billion Trees here.
Wildlife Recovery
Supporting the Yellow-Eyed Penguin Trust, Forest & Bird and Project Jonah
New Zealand has incredibly unique and very special wildlife, from birds and reptiles to sea mammals and insects. However, many of our native species are threatened or critically endangered and face threats posed by humans and introduced pests such as Possums, Stoats, Rats and Mice. Climate change, pollution, destruction of habitat and disease outbreak has also played a critical part in the welfare of our specials creatures.
Noopii® supports recovery programmes for a handful of native species. Each of our nappies, nappy pants and packs have been designed with a native New Zealand animal combined with beautiful native flora. For each pack sold, Noopii® will donate a portion of our sales to specific organisations that helps to support and conserve the unique fauna featured on our packaging and nappies. These wildlife and habitat recovery programmes include The Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust, Forest & Bird and Project Jonah.
Blue duck
Our Newborn nappies and nappy packs feature the Blue duck/whio swimming amongst native kiwakiwa foliage and river boulders. Blue duck/whio are a very threatened species, at risk of becoming extinct. The Blue duck is a river specialist and one of the few waterfowl worldwide that live year round on fast-flowing rivers. Much of their population is at risk as a result of declining fresh water health, reduced river vegetation on river banks, introduced species predation and reduced water flow due to agricultural irrigation and hyrdo schemes. These ducks are endemic to New Zealand and play a crucial role in the ecosystem; they are a key indicator of health rivers and streams – the more breeding pairs of Blue duck the healthier the river.
With the help of Forest and Bird, these ducks have an ally in their freshwater corner. Forest and Bird are actively advocating for better agricultural methods to reduce harmful run-off into New Zealand’s freshwater systems, organize river clean-ups and channel donation proceeds to protect freshwater ecosystems and species. To do our part, a portion from the sales of our Noopii Newborn nappy packs goes toward Forest and Bird to support the ongoing efforts of this important organization. Yellow-eyed penguin
Our Infant nappies and nappy packs feature the Yellow-eyed penguin/hoiho amongst native toetoe foliage. Yellow-eyed penguins/hoiho are a threatened species with a declining population, found along the coastline of mainland New Zealand. Much of their population is at risk as a result of disease, starvation, habitat loss, overfishing and climate change. These penguins are endemic to New Zealand and a recent study showed they may disappear for good from our seas and coastline within the next 20 to 40 years.
Thanks to the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust, these rare birds are getting a helping hand. The trust is a long established, non-government funded organisation, specifically focused on the conservation of the penguins, by ensuring their survival, managing the birds’ and their habitat and addressing impacts in the marine and terrestrial environments. To do our part, a percentage from the sales of our Noopii® Infant nappy packs goes toward the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust to support the ongoing efforts of this important organisation. Marlborough spotted skink
Sometimes referred to as the Common Skink. Endangered and declining in population.
Our Crawler nappies and nappy packs feature a little crawler of their own - the Marlborough spotted skink, amongst the lovely flowers and foliage of the Marlborough Rock Daisy. Marlborough spotted skinks, like many other species of native skink, are very rare. They have declined in numbers due to both introduced mammal predation, (their biggest threat being rats and cats) and loss of habitat due to agriculture and livestock farming. Marlborough spotted skinks are a very important and fragile part of our eco-system, as they aid in the pollination of native plants, and disperse native plant seeds through fruit consumption.
One organisation helping to preserve the habitat for native Skinks, including the Marlborough spotted skink is Forest & Bird. Forest & Bird is New Zealand’s leading Independent conservation organisation, defending nature across our little corner of the planet. To help this organisation keep doing great things, a percentage of our sales of the Noopii® Crawler nappy packs goes toward Forest & Bird. To learn more or donate, click here to visit their website.
Archey’s frog
Critically Endangered.
Our Toddler nappies and nappy packaging print features Archey’s frog, one of the world’s rarest frogs; amongst the foliage of the native Mingimingi plant. Archey’s frog is not only New Zealand’s smallest native frog, its species hasn’t changed in over 200 million years, hence it’s common nickname of ‘living fossil’. Unfortunately these rare living fossils are critically endangered, and now only found in two areas of New Zealand; Te Kuiti and the Coromandel Peninsula.
With their critically endangered status and threat from predators, Auckland Zoo sprung into action to help population growth with a captive breeding programme, slowly rebuilding the Archey’s frog population, one at a time. Another organisation working to conserve Archey’s frog is Forest & Bird. Noopii® aims to help fund research and conservation efforts by donating a percentage of our sales of the Noopii® Toddler nappy packs to Forest & Bird. Forest & Bird is New Zealand’s leading Independent conservation organisation, defending nature across our little corner of the planet. To learn more or donate, click here to visit their website. South Island Tomtit
Also known as ngirungiru. Not currently threatened.
Our Walker nappies and nappy packaging design feature the South Island Tomtit, one of New Zealand’s smallest forest birds. South Island Tomtits are a subspecies of New Zealand Tomtits, and although not currently a threatened species, South Island Tomtits are still vulnerable to introduced mammalian predation and habitat disruption.
Noopii® aims to help fund research and conservation efforts of the South Island Tomtits and their habitat, by donating a percentage of our sales of the Noopii® Walker nappy packs to Forest & Bird. Forest & Bird is New Zealand’s leading Independent conservation organisation, defending nature across our little corner of the planet. To learn more or donate, click here to visit their website.
Forest Ringlet Butterfly
Also known as the Helms Butterfly. Rare and at Risk.
Our Walker nappy pants and nappy pant packaging design feature the Forest Ringlet Butterfly, New Zealand’s rarest native forest Butterfly. Forest Ringlet Butterflies are incredibly rare and have rapidly disappeared from the majority of New Zealand’s forests. They play an important role in pollinating native flora and are indicators of the health of our fragile ecosystem.
Currently research is being done by scientists to understand why our rare butterfly population is declining. Noopii® aims to help fund research and conservation efforts for Forest Ringlet Butterflies and their habitat, by donating a percentage of our sales of the Noopii® Walker nappy pants packs to Forest & Bird. Forest & Bird is New Zealand’s leading Independent conservation organisation, defending nature across our little corner of the planet. To learn more or donate, click here to visit their website.
Maui’s Dolphin
Critically Endangered.
Our Junior nappy pants and nappy pant packaging print features our most famous little ocean mammal, the Maui Dolphin. Maui dolphin are a subspecies of Hector’s dolphin, found in the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Maui’s dolphin are the smallest, and one of the rarest dolphins species in the world. Human fishing activity, climate change and slow reproductive rates of these little dolphins have affected population growth and the species is in danger of extinction.
Project Jonah is an organisation with a mission - to help save, conserve and protect marine mammals. Looking after New Zealand’s oceans is critical to protecting our endemic Maui Dolphin. Noopiii® aims to help fund conservation efforts of this very special dolphin, by donating a percentage of our sales of the Noopii® Junior nappy pants packs to Project Jonah.
